How this calculator works
Western placements are geocentric ecliptic longitudes in the tropical zodiac, calculated with astronomy-engine from your exact birth moment converted to UTC.
Vedic placements are sidereal, using the Lahiri ayanamsa. Your moon nakshatra is one of the 27 lunar mansions, divided into four padas of 3°20' each.
Your four pillars follow the Chinese solar calendar, including the Lichun year boundary and the standard late-Zi hour convention.
Common questions
- Is this birth chart calculator really free?
- Yes. The calculator is open to anyone, with no account and no payment. The weekly reading is separate and also free for founding members — it turns these placements into a reading matched to the week of your cycle.
- What if I don't know my birth time?
- You can still calculate. Without a time we omit your Rising sign and your hour pillar rather than guess them; Sun, Moon, nakshatra and the other three pillars remain accurate.
- Why do the Western and Vedic results differ?
- Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, anchored to the equinox. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, anchored to the fixed stars. The gap between them — the ayanamsa, currently around 24 degrees — often shifts a placement back one sign. See the full comparison for every sign
- How accurate are the calculations?
- Planetary longitudes are computed with astronomy-engine and verified against a reference set of known charts to within a fraction of a degree. Four pillars follow the Chinese solar calendar including the Lichun year boundary.
- Do you store my birth details?
- No. They are sent once, used to calculate, and returned in the same response — nothing is written to a database, and this page carries no third-party analytics or trackers. Our host counts page views first-party and in aggregate. Two optional extras are worth knowing about: if you copy the share link, your birth details are inside that link, and if you sign in and ask us to email your chart to your verified account address, the email contains the same link. Both are opt-in and neither is needed to use the calculator.
