What each phase means alongside your cycle

The lunar month and the menstrual month are two separate rhythms of roughly the same length. Reading them side by side is an old habit, and a useful one: the moon gives you a shared, visible calendar, while your own cycle gives you the body underneath it.

New moon

Often read alongside the menstrual phase

The sky is dark and the month begins again. In cycle terms this is the inward point — lower energy, less appetite for performance, more appetite for rest and honest thinking. A good moment to name what you want the next few weeks to hold rather than to launch it.

First quarter

Often read alongside the follicular phase

Half lit and building. Energy tends to return, along with curiosity and the patience for new things. Use it for starting, learning, training, and the conversations that need you at your most open.

Full moon

Often read alongside ovulation

Everything is visible. This is the outward, expressive point of the month — social warmth, clear speech, and a body that usually feels at its most capable. It can also feel loud, so it rewards a plan for how you want to spend the brightness.

Last quarter

Often read alongside the luteal phase

The light draws back. Attention narrows, tolerance for noise drops, and detail work often gets easier than crowds. Finish, tidy, review, and let go of what you were only carrying out of habit.

Questions

Does the moon calendar match my menstrual cycle?
Not exactly, and it does not need to. A lunar month is about 29.5 days and a menstrual cycle is commonly 21 to 35 days, so the two drift against each other. We show them side by side as two rhythms you can read together, not as a claim that one controls the other.
What time zone are these dates in?
All phase moments are calculated and shown in UTC. Depending on where you live, a phase can land on the previous or next calendar day in your local time.
How are the dates calculated?
With the astronomy-engine library, which searches for the exact moments the Sun-Moon elongation reaches 0°, 90°, 180° and 270°. Nothing is looked up from a table, and nothing is sent to our servers.
Is anything stored about me?
No. This page reads only today's date in your browser. There is no account, no tracking and no third-party analytics.
