All 27 nakshatras

The sidereal zodiac is divided into 27 lunar mansions of 13°20' each. The Moon crosses roughly one nakshatra a day, which is why it is the anchor of Vedic timing.

Common questions

What is a nakshatra?
A nakshatra is one of the 27 lunar mansions of the sidereal zodiac, each 13°20' wide. Vedic astrology reads the Moon's nakshatra as the most personal marker in a chart — closer to lived temperament than the Sun sign used in Western astrology.
What is a pada?
Each nakshatra is quartered into four padas of 3°20'. The pada narrows the placement and, in traditional practice, links the nakshatra to a navamsa sign.
Do I need my exact birth time?
For the nakshatra itself, an approximate time is usually enough — the Moon moves about one nakshatra per day. Near a boundary, or for the pada, minutes matter. Without a time we calculate for local noon and say so.
Why is my nakshatra different from my Western moon sign?
Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, tied to the equinox. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, tied to the fixed stars. The two differ by the ayanamsa — currently about 24 degrees — so sidereal placements often fall one sign earlier.
Is my data stored?
No. Birth details are sent once, used to calculate, and returned in the same response. Nothing is written to a database and there are no trackers on this page.
